Re: Stop Sanctions efforts against Eritrea
I am writing to you as your constituent and call on your support to stop the unfair and illegal effort to impose sanctions against Eritrea by the UN. As a matter of a public record, I want to note that the US Ambassador to the UN, Ms. Susan Rice, recently submitted her recommendation to the UN for sanctions to be imposed against Eritrea for supporting and arming the so-called "Somali insurgents" against the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.
I must emphasize once again that the Government of Eritrea has vehemently and repeatedly rejected these unsubstantiated allegations. Furthermore, Eritrea has challenged the UN Sanctions Committee repeatedly to provide any evidence to support these allegations, but to date no one has produced a concrete or any irrefutable evidence to support these claims. It is to be recalled that a previously made allegation against Eritrea, such as the alleged 2000 Eritrean soldiers being involved within the Islamic Courts Union of Somalia, has remained to be an embarrassingly groundless accusation to the UN Sanctions Committee since not even a single Eritrean soldier was found in Somalia.
The current effort by the US Ambassador to UN is not only illegal but it is also immoral because it is not based on the truth but on hearsays and unfounded allegation. That is why I am writing you this letter. Your Honor, I urge you to consider the urgency of this matter and to do your utmost to avert an impending crisis on the people of Eritrea. The people of Eritrea have been dealt much injustice in the past and they wish for nothing other than fairness and the right to live in peace.
Wishing you and your family a happy holiday,
Yours sincerely,
